Overview

development, particularly in understanding disease mechanisms, evaluating pharmacological activity, and ensuring safety and efficacy prior to clinical trials. However, effective utilization of these models requires proper training in ethical handling, experimental design, and regulatory compliance.

This workshop aims to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application by offering structured training in laboratory animal science, CPCSEA guidelines, and ethical considerations, along with exposure to standard animal handling techniques, dosing methods, and sample collection procedures. Participants will gain hands-on experience in widely used pharmacological screening models, including analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and neuropharmacological assays, as well as behavioral studies relevant to central nervous system disorders.

The program will also cover toxicity studies based on OECD guidelines, experimental design, data recording, and statistical analysis to ensure scientific validity and reproducibility. Emphasis will be placed on the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) to promote humane and responsible use of animals in research.

Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and practical sessions, the workshop will equip participants with the competencies required to conduct ethically sound and scientifically robust preclinical studies. The training is expected to enhance research capacity, improve compliance with regulatory standards, and support the development of skilled professionals in pharmacological and biomedical research.
